I can’t do it…

I’m not capable enough for it…

I can’t face it…

I can do this much only…

I can’t go forward from here…

I haven’t done it before…and so on…

Many times we come around above phrases, either we tell or listen. The one and the only reason behind it is, Comfort Zone.

What is a Comfort zone?

A comfort zone is a psychological state in which things feel familiar to a person and they are at ease and in control of their environment, experiencing low levels of anxiety and stress.

Though it’s a beautiful place, nothing grows within. Different people have different anxiety and stress levels and the anxiety level of one man or woman might be above or below that of another. Therefore, comfort zones vary from person to person. For example, some person likes to gossip every time they find free time from their schedule, so that becomes a comfort zone for them, another person who is an introvert, feels nervous in doing gossip. So it’s not the same case for both the people.

In simpler words, It’s a state of mind where a person’s anxiety and vulnerability are minimized to manageable levels. It is that area of our life with which we feel familiar with and in control.

Before anything great is really achieved, your comfort zone must be disturbed.

Why do we need to step out of our comfort zone?

Below are some benefits, that can be achieved by leaving our comfort zone.

To Learn about what we’re really made for

Taking risks will help us grow as an individual and will teach us about our interests, passions, talents, strengths, and weaknesses. Every time we accomplish something new that we didn’t think we were capable of, we become more confident, knowledgeable, and skilled at that level which we can’t imagine or believe in some cases.

To find our Passion

Staying inside our comfort zone makes it harder for us to discover our passion because no passion can ever be found in the shadows of our comfort zone, it can only be found by stepping away from our comfort zone.

To make ourselves less adjustable so you don’t get left behind

Sometimes our comfort zone might push us to adjust for less than what we dreamed of or what we could have if we just stepped out of it. It pushes us in a state where we want to do some accomplishment, but also want to adjust for the sake of time.

When you stay in your comfort zone, you will be left behind. Colleagues will leave you behind and people who were previously behind you in terms of life or career progress would meet up with you and leave you behind as well.

For the expansion of ourselves and digging more creativity levels

When we try something new, we may find a new hobby or talent or interest that we didn’t know we had before. Hectic and challenging situations require us to find our own creativity in order to reach a solution.

To boost our self-confidence

Tackling the unknown and proving to ourselves we can push past our boundaries and limiting self-beliefs builds our self-confidence and self-esteem. Insecurity loves to feed on our habit of not trying. If you stop thinking and start acting, you will realize what’s possible.

It’s always best to challenge yourself and go to a place out of your comfort zone.

How to step out of your comfort zone?

Try to know unknowns 👬

Initiate communication wherever you meet unknowns. You can say “hi” to a coworker you’ve never communicated with before, and you’re one step away from becoming friends!

Expose yourself to new environments that are just outside your comfort zone

Never feel nervous or fearful in changing environments that you never entered before. Things just take time and so do you. Keep trying to cope with the new environment assets step by step, whether it’s manpower or machine or society.

Take a baby step towards the goal 👣

You don’t need to go big in one go. Start small: Make a quick company announcement. Take a different route to work. Try a new restaurant. Begin to create new habits that turn your ability to leave your comfort zone into something that feels natural and becomes a part of your daily routine.

Don’t overthink anything

Sometimes people think about situations over and over that are never going to happen, whether it is good or bad. They become disappointed and it ultimately diminishes our self-confidence. So discard every negative thought from your mind, accept the current situation, and go forward with it!

Set a growth mindset

Growth is one of the most essential human needs: If you’re not growing, you’re dying. The most successful people in the world have a deep need for growth that pushes them to leave their comfort zone in search of new things. This is called having a growth mindset — the belief that humans can improve their skills. In contrast, people with a fixed mindset don’t believe they can improve themselves, and may not bother trying. When you develop a growth mindset, you’ll unlock your inner power.

Write down your goals

Grab the journal and start writing whatever you want to accomplish during the day, week, month, and year. It will remind you every single time about that goal and why you want to achieve it. That way it will put one kind of force or pressure for reaching the goal effectively.

Surround yourself with a supportive group of people

Keep company with the ones who will uplift you, not the ones who will shut you down. The ones who you will see your enthusiasm and cheer you on, not the ones who will dampen it with vain. Your environment will play a big role here. Let go of the critics and hang onto the supporters. There’s nothing bleaker than having your spirit wrecked because of someone’s lingering pessimistic presence.

Don’t take yourself too seriously

Laugh at yourself and your mistakes. Consider how your adventures will become brilliant stories that people will want to hear. And when you fall (and you will), scarp the dust off your knees and get back up. What’s the meaning of a win if we never learn how to lose?

Focus on good things

Water your strengths. Celebrate your small wins. Have fun and enjoy the journey of “figuring it out” because that’s what life’s about.

Learn from mistakes and remember the lesson, but don’t move back

Fear of failure is one of the most common fears that hold us back from achieving excellence. When you look at the best athletes, business people, and actors, you will find they have one thing in common: they have all failed spectacularly at some point in their lives. The difference is that they don’t let failure hold them back. They know that in every failure there is a lesson — but you must move out of your comfort zone in order to find it.

Why we might want and even need to stay in our comfort zone?

Follow these steps to determine if it’s better for you to stay inside your comfort zone for a while.

You are not prepared to leave it yet

Sometimes, you might need to stay in your comfort zone a little while because you’re not yet prepared to step out of it and you may face exigent fallouts. So, you need to make sure that you’re actually qualified to leave your comfort zone, otherwise it’s better to take a little break.

Assess yourself

It is very important for you to assess yourself before leaving your comfort zone to see if it is the best choice for you or if what is bothering you is just a fear and nothing else.
